Rascal Flatts is the name of an American country rock band from Nashville.  The band is a trio  comprised of lead singer Gary LeVox, his second-cousing Jay DeMarcus on bass guitar and Joe Don Rooney on lead guitar.  The band was formed in 1997 when Jay DeMarcus, having been playing with a Christian rock band known as "East to West," convinved his musically inclined second-cousin Gary LeVox to move from Ohio to Nashville to persue a career in music. When their usual guitarist was unable to play one night, the cousins asked friend Joe Don Rooney to sit in.  Finding that the three of them had a certain magic, they formed the band Rascal Flatts.

 

Rascal Flatts have enjoyed many years of success and have under their belt five albums, which have all gone certified multi-platinum.  They have had eight songs go to number one on the country music charts, including a cover of the Tom Cochrane song "Life is a Highway" from the soundtrack to the Disney-Pixar animated hit Cars.  They were also the top selling artist in 2006, selling nearly 9 million copies total of digital and physical albums in that year.
